About Alex:
Alex’s early rugby years were marked by an impressive career as a former Premiership player in Melbourne, Australia. Seeking to expand his horizons, Alex ventured to Hong Kong, where he continued to play as a semi-professional rugby player, further honing his skills and tactical understanding of the game.
Transitioning from player to coach, Alex achieved the prestigious WR/RA Level 4 Coach certification, a hallmark of deep understanding of the sport and a prelude to his coaching career. He is known for his unique talent in revitalizing and restoring rugby programs that have lost their way. Alex’s strategic acumen and innovative coaching techniques have been pivotal in reshaping the framework of Rugby Netherlands. His efforts have been instrumental in propelling the “Rise of Oranje” within Rugby Europe, setting the foundation for a robust and thriving rugby culture.
The decision to move to the Netherlands was as personal as it was profound. With a young family in tow, Alex sought to bridge continents and cultures, settling in the Netherlands to be closer to his in-laws. This move, while humorously questioned at times with a light-hearted “I don’t know what I was thinking”, reflects the warmth and family-oriented nature that Alex embodies.
Alex is a dedicated husband to his wife, Lidwine, with whom he has celebrated 20 years of marriage—a partnership that stands as a testament to their shared love and commitment. Together, they have raised four children: Maja, Willem, Roos, and Jesse.
