Season Kick Off Seminar- Level 1

This course offers coaches an opportunity to begin their Continuous Personal Development journey by focusing on fundamental attacking skills. This program aims to build a coach's "toolbox" of technical skills, providing a solid foundation for coaching effectiveness in attack strategies. This course is a crucial component of the six-part curriculum required for coaches to apply for the WR2 certification course (providing they already have a WR1 certificate).

The Season Kick Off Seminar provides Level 1 coaches with a unique opportunity to enhance their coaching abilities and gain valuable insights from top coaches in the Netherlands. Hosted at the NRCA, participants will engage in a full-day program consisting of seminars, networking sessions, and socializing opportunities. The program aims to empower coaches to kick start their club season with renewed motivation and the latest coaching techniques and strategies.

 

Program Setup:

The Season Kick Off Seminar features a structured program designed to maximize learning and networking opportunities for participants. Throughout the day, coaches will attend seminars led by top coaches from Rugby Netherlands, gaining insights into the latest coaching methodologies and strategies. Ample time is allocated for networking and socializing, allowing participants to connect with fellow coaches and share experiences and ideas.


                                     

9:00 – 9:30: Introduction:

  • Welcome address by Kristof VanHout – Technical Director of Rugby Netherlands
  • Overview of the seminar objectives and schedule by Gareth Gilbert
  • Introduction of guest speakers and coaching staff

9:30 – 11:00: Pre-season Skills and Conditioning:

  • Dynamic warm-up routines tailored for rugby players
  • Skill drills focusing on passing, catching, and basic ball-handling techniques
  • Conditioning exercises to improve agility, speed, and endurance

11:00 – 11:30: Tea Break:

  • Opportunity for networking and informal discussions with coaches and speakers

11:30 – 13:00: Attack Theory and Practical Session

  • Presentation on attacking principles and strategies, including alignment, support play, and ball retention
  • Practical session demonstrating attacking patterns and decision-making drills
  • Analysis of video clips showcasing effective attacking play

13:00 – 14:00: Lunch Break

  • warm lunch provided for all participants – powered by Topsport Amsterdam
  • Opportunity for further networking and discussions

14:00 – 15:00: Set Piece: Level 1

  • In-depth discussion on set-piece fundamentals, including scrummaging and lineouts
  • Practical session focusing on scrum engagement techniques and lineout throwing drills
  • Demonstration of basic set-piece plays and strategies

15:00 – 15:30: Tea Break

  • Refreshments served with time for coaches to mingle and exchange ideas

15:30 – 16:30: Defence Level 1

  • Detailed presentation on defensive structures and systems
  • Practical session covering tackling techniques, defensive line organization, and breakdown skills
  • Video analysis of defensive patterns and strategies used by top teams

16:30 – 17:00: Recap of the Day and Introduction to CPD

  • Review of key learnings from the day’s sessions
  • Introduction to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for coaches
  • Closing remarks and invitation to the evening barbecue

17:00: Braai (Not Included)

  • Informal social gathering for coaches, speakers, and staff
  • Opportunity to relax, socialize, and reflect on the day’s events
